Does top or side hung refer to the position of the hinge or the window movement?

One of my windows (1.5m W x 1.0m H approx) needs a replacement hinge. The main section of glazing is fixed and running along the top of this are two opening windows.

Each opening window has a handle on the bottom edge with the same edge moving out further than the top edge when opened. Hinges for each window are riveted to the left and right sides of the frame.

Thanks in advance.

a top hung is when the handle is at the bottom and the hinges either side as you push the sash open it opens from the bottom.

A side hung has the hinges at the top and bottom of the sash and the handle on the side so the window opens out like a door

tried to keep it simple hope this helps.

ps your window is a top hung
