Dear all,

I have 20 or so bramble bushes that are growing all over the garden of the house that I have recently purchased. I would appreciate any advice on how to remove them permanently - I anticipate that it will involve a lot of digging!

The use of chemicals, although regretable, is something that I would consider as I need to make the garden a usable place for my children by the spring time.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

dig them out, including the roots.

a pair of sturdy gloves will be useful

SBK is the easiest and most complete way to get rid of it.

Nice one guys,

Pure "SBK" is what I feared it would involve, it's just a shame SBK isn't supplied in a spray can for ease of use!!!

Thanks again for your advice - got 5 days off work to do it in.

If you are going to use SBK brushwood, mix it with washing up liquid and brush it on all the greenery, it takes time and wear 2 pairs of rubber gloves!! It sticks to the leaves and not other plants you might want to protect  also it doesn't blow away/evaporate in the wind.
But you are better off digging up all you can now and hit any new growth later on in the year with this method.

Thanks Chris (saab9002)

Got caught out by the SBK wind up

Thanks for the advice. Only managed to dig up 1/4 of the brambles. There are lots of small roots that are all inter-twined and the spade / fork just cuts right through them. This has left lots of root material in the ground that will probably remain viable and problematic for regrowth.

I wonder whether using a mechanical digger to remove the top few inches of soil is the only answer?

Thanks again.
