Hi guys, I wasn't too sure where to post this on the forum.

What you see is a fireplace I unearthed behind what was a plastered fireplace with a gas fire. After much chipping away and clearing out 60 bags of rubble, slate and soot, I ended up with what you see.

The problem ? Maybe it's not too obvious from the photo but I can't seem to get the white dusty covering from off the slate ! I've scrubbed with soapy water, brillo pads, my wife just told me she tried bleach while I was out ! I've done a bit of pointing between the slate since the photo was taken and now I was wondering if you had any suggestions as to what solution might do the job ?

many thanks, BARCUD View media item 9212

You can buy a slate cleaner, and also a colour enhancer from Topps.
You can also try a mixture of linseed oil and turps for enhancement.

Thanks for the reply Stuart. I'll find our local TOPPS.

Just found out Holyhead is nearest, thanks again.

We have a slate fireplace and found the best thing to use is WD40 and some elbow grease. Comes up a treat.
