Nitrates wont cause algae alone, phosphates will also contribute. To reduce both you could try dosing vodka, but im getting far to deep into the question after all its only a pond not a marine tank

I had to clear out my pond last week during the good weather as we had loads of the green stuff, but now its clean I plan to dose with one of the many products out there, including blagdons algae clear as I have had success with this product before.

i have a 13ft x 10ft x 7ft deep that suffered bad blacket weed on its 3rd yr
it blocked the two 4" bottom drains.
Clarasan would keep it at bay for a short period but would still need regular flushing.
i then erected a pergola since then its never returned seven yrs on
clear to the bottom all yr round.
