Hello!

We have a very old soft-red-brick property which suffers from penetrative (rather than rising) damp. This problem isn't isolated to a leaking pipe, gutter etc. but more of a general 'well, it's very old masonry, what do you expect?' kind of way.

On the face of it there's a product called RainDance (http://www.safeguardeurope.com/products/raindance_raincheck.php) which would seem to be the answer... although things in life are seldom that easy. ;)

Does anyone have any experience of RainDance, or could they suggest an alternative product / approach?

Cheers,

Steve

Products like Raindance can be very effective if the damp is penetrating through the pores of the bricks/stone/mortar. However if the rain is penetrating through defective pointing, they won't help.

As you say the building in question is constructed from soft red brick it is plausible that the damp could be penetrating through the bricks themselves. However it would probably be worth checking the pointing first.

Isn't this product the same as Thompsons Water Seal, and other similar water replants?

Either way, they do work if applied properly and completely
