i am just about to rip up my garden fence and put a new one up.
what is better,
buying the post spikes or
digging a hole and concreting em in?

I'd go for the concrete-em-in technique.

Only reason I say that is that the spikes require you to:

1. Know that you are driving them into earth and nothing solid such as old concrete.

2. Know that you are not driving them into any services!

Also I'd say they are probably twice the cost even of the pre-mixed post concrete.

I'm only a DIY'er and the pro's might know better but this is just my opinion.

any pro that uses metposts is not a pro! They are a waste of time money and effort. they dont go in straight, they dont hold firm. Do it the right way and use concrete.
