Hi we have a play area in our garden which is edged by softwood sleepers and contains playbark and all the seings/slides etc

On one long side of the area (next to the garden fence) we wish to add a line of trellis that we can add some fun looking stuff for the kids. Nothing of any wirght or to be used for climbing etc but obviously needs to be secure

Was wondering of the best way to fix roughly 5ft tall trellis sections to the top of sleepers. There is the fence directly behind the sleeper so not easy to get behind the sleeper

Thanks

can't fix anything on top of the sleepers without posts.. so put posts up and screw the trellis to those...
use bolt down post anchors adn 3x3 posts..

and what kind of fool are you to think that the kids won't be climbing it as soon as it's up..
trellis is as good as a climbing wall to kids..

Thanks googled it and found what you mean. Presumably 3 x 3 is 75mm in "new money" size posts?

Will those anchors hold posts 5 foot high with only fixings on the bottom? I see they are for deck posts which are normally only say 3 ft high or so

Thanks for the parental advice but think they will be OK ;)

As the man said - you can support the posts ok, but they are not designed to be climbed on.

Cant you just screw the posts to the sides of the sleepers? ie remove some bark, screw the posts up, then put the bark back?
