The guttering on my semi has sectional concrete guttering cantilevered out from the walls. After cleaning thoroughly (sandblasting?) and making good any joints (with mortar?) the gutter will need to be re-surfaced. Help please!

Depending on the depth of the gulley, could you not line it with plastic guttering? If not then would have thought any bituminous roofing paint would do the trick.

The gutter is known as a Finlock gutter (architectural feature that's a pain in the wotsit) a company called HD Sharman sell a purpose made plastic liner that is used a lot in these cases.

You can coat it as has been said, whatever you coat it with has got to be strong and flexible enough to resist structural movement (which is why the gutters leak in the first place), another option is a metal liner, aluminium has been used fairly commonly.

Concrete gutters are my pet hate, they often suffer from movement especially over wide window frames. When they leak - they leak big time straight into the property. Horrible design.

Its best to fit a aluminium liner (or similar) some tradesman fill any gaps with cement and coat the inside with a sealant but to be honest it wont last long. As soon as another block moves it will break the seal. It doesnt help that these gutters often have an inch or two of water puddling in them so its best to get a specialist firm in.

I have seen a few properties where they have been lined with torch on bitumen felt and the homeowners all said it worked well. but I think the safest bet would be an liner. Only seen aluminium liners but plastic sounds good.

Thanks very much everybody - thats really helpful.

Somebody else mentioned a rubberised paint with fibre reinforcement. Has anybody got any experience of that please?

Thanks Daniel, I'll decide when we get up to the gutter and see how the neighbours' gutter has been dealt with, but I suspect that Acypol will be the answer!
