I'm shortly having the roof on my third bedroom converted from flat to pitched and as part of the job new fascias, soffits and gutters are being fitted. I have asked the roofer for black instead of the more common white but he said the cost of black is 3 to 4 times more. I've looked though the net and black is generally about twice as much white so can't see where hes getting 3 or 4 times more. I was also thinking about getting the rest of the house done at the same time so asked for a quote,he quoted £1500 for white but again said 3/4 times more for black.
Is this guy taking the mick or is some black soffits and fascias really that much more. Maybe why whites more common if this is the case.

He's probably quoting prices from his local supplier rather than the net prices you have been looking at. Why can't you point him in the direction of the net suppliers or buy them yourself online for him to fix?

they are normally about twice as much for the black,
so no he isn't taking the "mick" as such, maybe just quoting from his local supplier like the post above suggested,

Yes, black laminate is generally 3 times the cost of white. He should only charge 3 times the cost of the plastic and not the overall cost, i.e his labour/time taken.

And if you get a lot of sun on the areas to be done dont get black, it will be creaking and moving like a good'un, probably poping off the joints and looking rubbish in no time.

Check out this lot for an idea of material prices:

Black is slightly over twice the price of white. When I asked them why they said it was because they had to send standard white boards off to a specialist company to have the black foil applied. Might even be true....

I've used the black stuff right down the sun-baked side of my house and had no expansion problems - even with a full 5m length. Wish I could say the same for the guttering which starts creaking the instant the sun comes out.
