Using 12mm ply on top of Flat Roof Insulation?

As the subject really,

When using insulation on top of joists, Can you use the insulation WITHOUT the 6mm ply and instead put your own 12mm ply on top?
Reason being the 6mm ply is very flimsy so would look rubbish if using EPDM.

Why not? Use decent quality ply though. WBP and all that jazz.
 
Yeah decent ply!

You'd still have to cut the 12mm to the size of the insulation if it needs cutting? could you overlap the joints of the insulation?
