I too am in my 'early' fifties so maybe I'm just going through a phase.
I certainly meant no offence to anybody, (freddy I think you thought I was getting at you, I wasn't, just a thought that came into my head), and I too would prefer it when I go that people have a laugh and a joke and basically a 'blood y good time'.
It just seems when someone 'famous' dies the jokes are 'at' them rather than in a general manner.
Freddy, you are also right in saying "far more worthy members of society drop dead every day," yet these never get a mention outside of their own 'circle' simply because they are not 'famous' yet they can have a very profound effect on those that knew them.
Take no notice of me, (Nobody usually does anyway, )

In mid 1997, my two grandaughters, then aged 5 and 3 loved Boyzone, with Stephen Gately being the favourite of the youngest Naomi who adored him.
Around that time, Naomi was diagnosed with a mega rare genetic condition called Giant Axonal Neuropathy, which affected her ability to walk, talk, feed herself etc.
She needed constant 24 hr care, 7 days a week, which she received in abundance at home, from us all including the local authority.
She was a happy little kid who always had a smile for everyone. I used to take her out in my van, strapped in her seat,, and then push her around in her buggy, which i carried in the back, enjoying the fresh country air, picking flowers, watching the planes,,, anything, she loved it.
One day in 1998 my daughter, son in law, and the 2 girls went to see a Boyzone concert in Aberdeen and it was arranged for them to meet up with the group backstage, after the concert.
Boyzone could not have been more caring. We have photographs of the group all gathered round Naomi with her mum,dad and sister all in the photos.
Stephen Gately held a very special place in Naomi's heart. She loved him and that's why I think of him so fondly.
Naomi died on the 8th of March 2003 aged 9, and anything that was special to her is so very special to me.

RC, it doesn't matter what I say, you don't know me, I don't know you. Words are just that, words. The death of someone close is unfortunately something most of us have/will experience in our lifetime but the loss of someone young is always that much harder to take. And there we have it, Stephen Gately was a youngish lad but none of us really knew him. RCs Granddaughter was far too young to die and again, apart from RC (obviously), none of us knew her but we can all recognise the total and utter heartache that must bring to a family.
RC, as I have said on many an occasion (too many unfortunately), I know words don't really help in these circumstances but I want to tell you that I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of your precious, precious grandchild.
Lets have less of these 'Why are you sorry' comments when people post about the death of someone. It doesn't matter 'WHY' they are sorry/sad/heartbroken, they just are, accept it. If you can't accept it, fine, but don't post back with condescending/hurtful comments. If you cannot accept it, just at least have the grace to move on to another topic.
