only one of the reds is a live feed, the other is a strapper along with one black that goes upstaris to the other switch..
with the power off, open the upstairs switch and connect together the red and black that are in L1 and L2 ( or L2 and L3 if your switch is marked L1, L2, L3 rather than C, L1, L2. )
now using a multimeter on the continuity setting, check at the downstairs switch between the red and black from each cable..
one pair will read continuity.. those are the strappers..
now, they go into L1 and L2 on one switch, the black from the other cable goes to the other L1, and the red goes to C or Com, and is linked to the other C or Com too..
put the upstairs switch back how it was..
turn the power back on..

Can you remember how the old one was wired? Was there a link wire in there between the two switches?
there was two red wires and a com port with red wire i earth and two black cables. i have connected the switch as follows red wire in com port with com wire crossing between them also the black wire in L1 in both switchs. you can turn the upstairs light off from downstairs but not upstairs.....
did your old switch have 3 terminals per switch - L1, L2 and Comm? no there was com A B1 B2
UPPER, AND LOWER IS A1 A2 B
Does your new switch have 3 terminals per switch or just L1 and Comm?
