Hi , i have purchased a property that is a launderette, it has living accomodation above which i would like to rent out , the only access to the upstairs is through the shop, iam going to re-wire the flat and install upvc windows, new kitchen, smoke alarms etc,and will get electrical work signed off, do i need to get building control involved regarding fire escape ?, fire board between shop ceiling and floor?. Local council web site isn,t clear as to my requirements, only new builds / extensions, any ideas as to a starting point as i don,t want to refurbish then be told it is not to regulation.
Thanks |

Thanks for the reply Big-all, iam going to install a metal stair case to the rear of the premises so that would be the main entry/exit, then there would be two means of escape.( the other being through the shop), I will check with my insurance company regarding this.
