Smoke Alarm screeching????

Hi, hope someone can help. What does it mean when the smoke alarm emits a loud screetching noise on and off for approx 20 mins. Not the usual beeping that indicates a low battery. Two linked alarms but only one sounding. No sign of any smoke. (Recently had problems with carbon monoxide alarm as well).

sounds like its had it!!!

a linked smoke detector (BS5839;PT6) unit should only sound if smoke/heat is present, and should also transmit between linked devices.

if the unit sounds on its own, and shuts off by itself, i am of the thinking, its had it.

unless there is smoke / steam or other particulates within the area around the unit, around the unit

so the best idea is, bin it and fit a new one, ensure that it is the same manufacturer as well to ensure communication with other units.

on the other matter of your CO detector, if this trips into alarm, CALL THE GAS COMPANY!!!!
as the unit is doing its job!!!!
