Hi

What transmitter should I attempt to line my new digital terrestrial aerial up to from a house in the south side of Glasgow.

And - does anyone know its longnitute/latitude or compass direction from Glasgow to pick this up (with just a compass!)

I, I got a Labgear TV Aerial Digital 32-Element from Screwfix to put on a chimney on G43 2HD house.

The wolfbane site eluded to pointed me in the direction of the main central Scotalnd transmitted that made perfect sense, along with other new aerial installations that we're on 6' poles (some of hte older installations appeared to point other directions)

However, in this (circa 81-90o easterly) direction, 100m in the line of sight, a 4 storey office block stands in the way.

1. WIll a 32 element aerial be sufficient - how do you tell?
2. I have a clear line of sight bar hte office, how do I know what level of height I need to reach a good signal
3. Working on a roof is dangerous, how can I obtain a signal in advance of mounting the aerial and pole?

If line of sight is blocked then go for the next transmitter that has clear line of sight.

If Black Hill has obstructions, you need to go for Darvel, which is southwards, and should be fine from the southside.

We have the opposite problem in East Kilbride - have always been pointed at Darvel until the wind farm blocked the signal, now we need to point to Black Hill.

Does anyone know how accurately an aerial needs to point at a transmitter -.e.g. can it be done with a crude compass or does it need a specialist signal detection tool? Also, what difference does +/- 1m of height make to the signal... as I'm struggling to get reception from my new aerial pointing towards BlackHill in Central Scotland.
