Relocate gas connection pipe height?

When we had the kitchen fitted sometime ago, we talked about moving the gas pipe though nothing was done about it. We decided to go with a ceramic hob as it was easier/safer with the small children.

Now, we want to consider fitting a gas hob where the gas pipe will need moving along the wall. We have a problem though, the house now has a fitted kitchen.

Is there a minimum height that the gas pipe has to be ran from the floor?

We ask as its probably easier to have a plumber lay the pipe against the skirting board underneath the kitchen units with the plinth off, than to try and remove 1-2 false backs of the kitchen cupboards.

The current 15mm blanked off gas pipe is sat behind a wine rack, which access can be by removing an 600mm wide fitted appliance. The next 1000mm unit has a false back, which would leave roughly 800mm of wall which the pipe could not be secured easily. I guess the pipe would need to be built up in stages (say 600mm lenghts with joins?) which we understand that the price/penalty for this would increase.

A crazy idea, or should we just stay with the ceramic hob idea?

The main consideration is protection from mechanical damage so fitted along at skirting height behind units will not be a problem.

Its often easier to extend a gas pipe in a kitchen than the owner expects.

A video uploaded to Utube would be enough for most to quote.

I would be thinking of about £130 so far. but thats for the gas supply and not cutting a hole in a granite worktop.

No need for cutting, its to leave a bayonet connector on the wall behind the fitted oven for the future gas hob.
