I am putting a ring of sockets into my garage/workshop. What is the difference between a single pole socket and a double pole socket apart from one has one and the other two :?:

I think you`ll find a double pole switch, switches live & neutral, as opposed to just the live side.

May be you could clarify your question as if you are talking about sockets it is one thing if you are talking about switches it is a different thing.I don't think that single socket and double socket are different apart of the fact that on is single and the other you can guess...

If you look on the Screwfix web site under electrical sockets, you wiil see --1 Gang or 2 gang meaning a single socket or a double.
1 pole is the switch on the live side.
2 pole is switched on both live and neutral (a much better socket)
