Truck diagnostics?

Try as I might, I'm not getting anywhere looking for engine fault codes on Iveco trucks.......the diagnostic port is there well enough, but my scanner just says 'failure to communicate'.
Are trucks OBD compliant like cars, does anyone know?
These vehicles are both on 07 plates so I thought I'd be ok.

No, with obscure stuff like this I find it best to pass it on to those who have dedicated gear (plus the skills to use it :p )
According to the owner of this thing it has a tendency to cut out (presumably at junctions) but it immediately restarts. It can do this a few times a day, or it can be trouble free for weeks......just the sort of thing we like to play with (not!)

Had a couple of Eurocargo's a while back. The fuel pump went on one (apparently it has no lubrication from modern diesel, same as LR Discoveries of similar age apparently). I'm almost certain the problem began with the engine intermittently cutting out while idling. Can't remember many details except it was a J reg 120e18. Removing the engine cut-off solenoid (on the pump) showed lots of metal filings inside.

The other one, a J reg 75e12, sometimes didn't switch off with the key, maybe it was the start of the same problem? Sold it before any real problems tho.

Might be worth whipping out the solenoid and see if there's any filings there, IIRC I took it out using a crap pair of mole grips at the side of a road one night, so it shouldn't be too hard. (Obviously if it's a similar engine/truck)
 
This one is an 07 Daily twin wheel tipper, Alan.
The only thing I've done so far is to replace the fuel filter - although the element was black there wasn't any metal particles or water in the filter bowl so I assume there's no problem with the pump.
Its a common rail engine. If there's a crank sensor, I can't find it!
If only the darn thing would cut out with me in it, but of course it doesn't :p
I've told the owner to go to a recommended specialist if it continues - whether he does or not remains to be seen! I would guess that there is a fault code stored though.

Almost deffo a different set-up then, no new-fangled common rail technology on mine. One was a 12 tonner, the other a 7.5 tonner, fairly big capacity engines IIRC.
 
Funny enough, there was a very oily electrical connection in that area but it was back from the front pulley so I assumed it was an oil level indicator.....information on these vehicles is pretty scarce so I'm in there blind.
Another curiosity is the viscous coupled fan - which isn't viscous at all but does look like it......it has an electromechanical clutch to get it spinning, just like an A/C compressor!
No doubt the truck will make an appearance again - its one of these things that never goes away :p
