Has anyone ever fitted battens for plasterboard to the inside of a loft roof, over multi foil insulation...?

As I see that one of the multi foil layers is a soft foam like material, I am wondering if this will get tangled up if a screw passes through it to the rafters, but the technical sheet says battens can be fixed with nails or screws...?

any help would be greatly appreciated,

thanks!

You would normally just staple it to the battens, then fix counter battens over the insulation and screw through the lot, it won't get tangled up.

But why bother with the foil multi-layer at all? I am yet to see any justification as to why they should be used. They're are a waste of time and are more expensive than conventional PIRs and just as thick overall as you need an air gap above an bellow.

Years ago they were touted as a 'super' insulation, then it came to light that their testing methodology was flawed and it turned out they needed an air gap each side, thus making their 'super' qualities (ie very thin) a load of crap!

freddymercurystwin - thanks for your reply!

the multifoil was already in place before i started with plasterboard, and was fitted by a builder, I had no idea there was any controversy about the effectiveness of it..! I'm hoping its not total rubbish as it was all paid for and in place some time ago...too late...!!

I assumed that the soft foam layer will get twisted and tangled up as the screw goes through the multifoil, but you think this shouldn't be a problem....?

would it be better overall to use a nail gun for the counter battens...?

cheers
