Do plumbers replace flues?

I've just bought a house and it seems from the survey that the hot water system and flue for the gas need to be replaced.

I was wondering whether anyone could advise on whether a plumber would be able to replace the gas flue (at the same time as putting in a new boiler)?

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

Surveyors are not usually heating experts.

Better to call a local RGI and ask them what if any problems there are.

Even better to PAY them and ask for a one page short report om the installation.

Or if you are good with photos and posted about eight then we could tell you for free.

Nothing like a man on site though as we could not taste your coffee!

check out some local Gas Safe registered guys,a recommendation from a friend or family will be even better

That way you will know exactly what is needed to bring your installation up to scratch.

Whatever you do,dont bother with these recommend a tradesman type of websites ,anyone who is decent doesnt need to pay five hundred quid a year to be recommended or "RATED"

House surveyors are in the upper echelons of the association of ********s.

Get someone in who knows. My 6 year old could manage a more informed opinion than your average surveyor.

If the flue relates to the current boiler then it will be replaced if you have a new boiler fitted anyway or in some cases the current flue can be replaced if it is still available and you wish to keep the current boiler , for example I recently fitted a new flue kit for a customer with a corroded potterton prima flue which gave them a bit more time to save for an upgrade
.
If it relates to a separate appliance eg a fire then a safety inspection can be carried out to determine the safe and correct operation of the flue.

What is an RGI?

It sounds like people are saying get a Registered Gas Installer in first to take a look at the system and flue, before making any final decisions.

And that if an RGI concluded a new system was needed he'd most likely fit a new flue with the new system.

The added complication is that the old flue is made of asbestos, so I guess I'd need to get a specialist asbestos remover in, to get rid of that before the RGI could do his work.

Just because its asbestos doesnt mean it needs replacing

ignore him why would it need replacing they do not wear out .New boiler then new flue .

Take an out asbestos cement flue in one piece no need for specialist firm
