two way dimmers in the room, want to change them

If you just want to check it works, put the red and yellow in a bit of insulating block together and the light should come on.

The trouble with a lot of dimmers is that they sometimes die if a lamp blows.
You could try the main dimmer (red to L and yellow to squiggly). It may be OK.

PS Make sure there the front plate is connected to earth, if you are using metal plate switches. I looks like the old ones weren't

You don't need to wrap the choc-block in tape, and you shouldn't anyway - it goes manky and slimy over time and falls off.

You don't need to buy a test switch - if you want to simulate one in the ON position just connect the red & yellow together.

[EDIT]Far too slow....[/EDIT]

sorry another quick question the back box is a 25mm ive noticed most of the screwless dimmers are stating a 35mm is minimium. is there a manufacturer that sells dimmers for the slimmer box?

thanks

It would probably take you less time to make a deeper hole than to look for a shallow dimmer.
