I have a top opening double glazed window that when unlatched slides fully open by itself.

There appears to be no adjustments on the hinge itself, so is there anything I can do to effectively increase the friction before I consider changing the hinges as the window is in an awkward place to access from the outside.

Usually a screw on the sliding part of the hinge to add friction post some pictures of the hinge, we may be able to point it out ;)

Open the window right up and you should see a small flat head brass screw on each hinge. Tighten them both slightly until you reach the desired stiffness.

It should be right at the top of the casement, right on that corner bit that's too dark to see

Wow - just a quarter turn sorted it!

Guess I now know what to do with another window which is too stiff :D

Thanks for the help
