We have matt white tiles and dark grey grout. We cleaned the bulk of the grout off the tiles post installation but not the fine tuning.... This was now a while ago. There are shadows of grey where some grout remains.

Have tried sponge and water and elbow grease, nylon pads, cloths, I even tried white spirit on a small patch.

Has anyone done this? It looks pretty shoddy!! Thank you in advance for any helpful tips for these tiling beginners!

DRY coarse cloth and elbow grease. [or a buffing machine]the fine dust should then polish the tile as it's removed.

Thank all replies, will have a go with the buffing/polishing techniques.... Have a horrible feeling the tiles might be porous tho...

Try using a stiff, clean wallpaper scraper. Worked fine for me as if you apply enough pressure and push the scraper along slowly, the grout just rolls itself up in front of the scraper. When you have shifted as much as you can, use a wet coarse cloth to finish off.
