Microsoft Life-Chat LX3000

Not sure whether this is a hardware or software question but here goes I have the LX 3000 headset and can only use either the headset or the speakers. I can only select one or the other as a default, is there any way I can have them both on at the same time as it is annoying having to go in the sound and select the default every time I want to use one or the other.

Can you not set your system so speakers are default but when headphones are plugged in the speaker is automatically muted?

This headset plugs into the USB. I understand what you mean as I have a standard headset with a plug in to the speakers.
