Hi,

I'm about to rent out my house and need to put in interlinked mains-wired heat detector in kitchen and smoke detector(s). The regs say I need a detector in the main living space - the living room in this case and also one on the first floor. Since the stairs lead directly from my living room and any smoke would go straight up the stairs, do I need a smoke detector in the living room AND at the top of the stairs ? I'm in Scotland, where the regs might be different to the rest of the yookay.

Thanks,

Peter

if the regs say that then yes.

The purpose of multiple detectors is not just the (prompt) detection of smoke, but also the volume of sound when alarming, and redundancy in case one detector fails insensitive.
