My son is taking a customer to small claims court over unpaid invoice.

Customer keeps asking him to provide details of his trade association to use as an arbitrator. Am I missing something?
Whilst its obviously beneficial to be in a trade association it is not (for the purposes of a claim in court ) mandatory, is it ?

No, not required. Is he a member of a trade association and if so do they give guidance on issues like this?

No, not mandatory to be a member of a TA. Some trades have to be members of regulatory bodies like Gassafe, but not sure they would get involved in mediation.

Problems sometimes arise where traders have claimed to be members of TAs when they aren't. Either they weren't ever a member, or their membership has lapsed.

I wouldn't worry about it.
