Painting over cheap furniture/ chipboard

Just bought a folding camper, (basically a trailer with a tent attached to it). The inside is really dated, so the mrs wants to paint all the woodwork inside.

all the wood is vaneered fake wood stuff (exactly like a caravan).

now im guessing i will need to prime all the wood - any recomendations to primer

will i also need to sand/ key the surface, its glossy at the moment

ideally i want a tough finish, so any recommendations on paint too

When moving house we taped the doors of a computer desk closed. On removing the tape it removed some of the face of the laminate surface. To tidy it up we gave it a quick sand, then painted a couple of coats of emulsion onto it, then a coat of gloss (or maybe two, can't remember). That was 5 years ago and it still looks ok and hasn't scrached off etc.
