How to attach this handle

Hi,

the handle on our balcony door has worked itself loose and finally come off.
I was wondering how i would screw the screws back in?
there's no access to the top of the screw to screw it back in.
It seems like the only way is to remove the handle, but i can only see a weird fitting in the middle bit that's quite deep down.

The screws are under the cover plate, slightly lift each end up simultaneously and turn it thus exposing the screws heads
