Indesit stopping mid cycle

My indesit washing machine keeps stopping mid cycle and then starts a buzzing noise. On some cycle it works intemittantly and on others it just starts buzzing, as soon as it starts. Once it has stopped mid cycle i can then turn the dial and it will start again. Is this the timer?
