...from someone who probably should know better but i have not come across this before (or dementia is fairly getting a grip).

top floor flat in a block, Ferroli Optima 701(fan flued) with twin pipe flue up though the ceiling, followed it into the common loft. Flue section exits and terminates above the roof - ok. air intake section stops about 1.5m into the loft (in mid-air so to speak). no purpose provided ventilation in the loft area but draughty so probably well provided adventitiously (if that's how it's spelled). Looks as if it's been like this for years. I'm thinking at the naughty end of NTCS. anyone any thoughts or opinions?

If it's not ferroli flue then it would be at risk anyway, so I would probably ring and ask ferolli if it sounds like it is right....not the remnants of a vertex flue is it?

Check if boiler is approved with a C52 type flue system. Normal regs regarding air intake apply eg minimum 300mm above insulation/joists, a guard to prevent blockage, eaves ventillation etc.

Loft should have eaves vents I think, otherwise may be AR?

sounds like a vertex flue to me

if it what i think he his cutting corners and if it has a two pipes coming of the boiler one for products of combustion and the other the air intake this should have terminated outside along with the other but of the price of it he has terminated the air intake flue in the attic
