I'm getting this error too, sporadically, on an Ultima 1200 WD71 washer dryer.

Typically, what happens is that the machine starts, it gets part way through a cycle, but then when the motor speeds up as, I can hear sparking from the motor, and shortly after the LCD display becomes corrupted, with lots of the elements on it flickering.

It continues to work for a while, but at some stage will stop and give the error beeps; sometimes the display remains corrupt, other times it displays E30.

Is this likely to be just impulse interference caused by the motor brushes, or do I have a more serious problem too?

It'll be the brushes.

Thanks; I've taken them out and given them a good rub with a wire brush, and I'll see if that improves things.

Is there any merit in swapping the two sides over, to even out the wear? One of them has much less left on it than the other.

Fit new ones. They aren't that expensive.
