Zanussi FJS1397W - How to replace the selector properly!

Hi everyone. Complete novice here.

In removing the front control panel I have inadvertently twisted the selector inside. It is now out of synch with the outer control knob.

Could anyone tell me how this should be corrected, please? I.e., how does the external knob locate onto the internal mechanism in the right orientation?
