Washing machine will allow water to enter, will not stay in

Had a small disaster this weekend with wtr flooding kitchen after washing machine started rinse cycle. Drains are clear and water drains from machine. Problem: set on rinse cycle, the water will enter the machine and immediately drain from the machine.

Please help!!

check the drain hose isn't too far into the stand pipe.

the washer has been in the same place for approximately one year and has performed admirably.

I noticed you replied to a similiar problem in April by stating that there may be an anti flood device in the base. Would you be so kind as to explain that for me?

if you're machine has a sealed base it's likely to have a float in it. Water gets in the base, lifts the float, float activates a switch and the pump kicks in.
