Damsel in plumbing distress!

I know nothing about plumbing so pretty please help me someone! My shower is a mixer, it has suddenly lost power and when first turned on does not mix hot and cold, after about 30 seconds it mixes no problem but to get the full power shower pressure I have to kneel in the shower cubicle. So lowering the shower head works!!! Please advise

ChrisR, thank you and I am not sure if it has a pump, yes I am that bad at plumbing! It is a very old system in the first wave of new builds about 10 years ago don't know if that can narrow down the answer to the presence of a pump! Any ideas? And Scatman you are a perv! ha ha

Obviously I am talking to lots of people to get ideas and just now a colleague has said it does not sound like it has a pump!
