Lining paper on Lining paper

Good Afternoon,

I hope someone can help me.
My lining paper and paint are cracking as I think the lining paper is very old. I am scared of removing it all for fear of the plaster being in a bad state so I was wondering whether I could just put new lining paper over the old?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Yes you can apply lining paper over lining paper.

You really need to look at the reasons why its flaking etc first.
