acrylic and silk

Hi there people,
I woz just wondering as i have just started a new paining job about if there is any difference in acrylic gloss an silk emusion. Sorry if that is a dumb question but i just wondered.

Massive difference..

The base of the paint for a start Silk is normally based on PVA or Latex water based gloss is Acrylic resin.

One of the reasons some paint is shiny is whats called the 'pigment to binder ratio' in other words the more pigment in a paint the less sheen.

Its the same with oil based gloss...there is less pigment in it and its finer so the sheen comes from the higher proportion of binder/medium which is essentially varnish.

Ever noticed when your undercoating the 'whishing' noise?....thats the courser and denser pigment cutting its way into the surface.
