Can i plaster over textured paint ?

Hi i have a ceiling in my bedroom that i would like plastered for a smooth finish but it has been painted with textured paint it is possible to cover this ok with plaster ?

I'm no plasterer but I'd have thought this would key nicely, as long as the paint is securely attached and the ceiling wasn't textured to hide the fact that it's falling off!

You need to ask a plasterer really.
 
My mate has just plastered his textured ceiling, and i said shouldnt you have stripped. He said no paints fine if its well attatched, but you have to unibond it. Hes been in the game for years, but still get another opinion coz theres nothing more bad than haveing to do the same job twice.
 
I had a very bad experience with textured paint once..Painted over it with emulsion.......went back next day and the whole lot had come away from the ceiling apart from the edges and was hanging like a huge sheet suspended from the ceiling..... :rolleyes:

Skimming over textured paint is fine,as long as flake off dud paint as rigid said,then 2 coats of pva and away you go.
