If IT is complete, and not missing something, there's a tube down the middle which you can take out once the grid on top is removed, for cleaning. That's what makes the "trap", with a seal of 38mm.
Doesn't comply with Building Regs by the way, which require a 50mm seal, but what you have is what gets used 90% of the time
