Hi All,

We have just had a new modern kitchen fitted and are thinking about a
"designer radiator" as a future (or even feature - thank you diyisfun) on one wall. The rad is approx 1800h x 445w ish, maybe tube or flat panel not sure yet.

I am concerned about the level of heat given - I accept the output on paper is ok but how good are they. How would it compare against a standard compact with convector fins for dishing heat out evenly ?

Has anyone any experience of these things ?

Your help would be much appriciated.

Cheers

Think you mean FEATURE,
Output = output, it doesnt matter what shape it is if it has a rated output then thats the output.
Efficiency is different, given that heat rises (or is cold air falls  ) then I think a radiator half way up a wall, would not be as efficient, but if you want it as feature (good idea) then that’s part of the pros & cons.

Thanks for the reply Diyisfun,

Yes, your right.
That was what I was thinking, but how LESS efficent are they ?

The rad is the only source of heat in the kitchen apart from the obvious. The designer jobbie will be at the same base level 150mm from floor and approx 1800mm high.

Will I only be heating the immediate area ?

Has anyone come across this situation before and what were your findings please?

Cheers

The heat will get itself round the room, though cold air dropping from windows etc will affect it. But if you're standing by the rad that tall, it feels very warm, because it's radiating at head height.
Until she chucks towels all over it, that is. ;)

Thanks for your replies,

May stick with traditional rad, better safe than sorry. I'll never be forgiven if the room isn't warm enough - you know what I mean ?

No towels on our rads ChrisR, more than her life's worth !
