I have an Ideal Combi boiler (approx 5 yrs old) and if I have both the heating and water on at the same time there is a fairly loud groaning noise coming from the unit. If I have either the heating or water on seperately everything is fine.

Any ideas?

Could be, says "Ideal Standard" on the front. Don't see any model numbers on it (or inside front cover)

If its an Isar (eye sore) then I have had many problems with the divertor valves.

Usually clunking noises I have to say but groanings could be the similar thing.
Then again your system could be badly sludged up?
