My dishwasher has low water PLUS my kitchen sink is filling with water from it while it runs. If I turn on the garbage disposal, it goes down and then returns to its current level. I cleaned out the air vent. I am not good with doing things but if anyone can troubleshoot or point me in the right direction, I would be so appreciative.

I would start by turning off the water to the valve on the dishwasher and checking the filter screen at the valve entrance. If this is clogged with sediment it will cause a low water charge in your dishwasher.
