Hi

Is it ok to use an acrylic undercoat on top of gloss or is it better to use an oil based undercoat.

Yes, Acrylic Undercoat can be used over previously painted surfaces (apart from varnish & laquer). I find the best Acrylic Undercoat is Leyland version. I have used Dulux Trade High Gloss over Leyland Acrylic Undercoat with no problems. I use the Leyland version as the Dulux version has terrible covering power. Just make sure u rub down the previously coated paint before applying Leyland Acrylic Undercoat.

Or if you are old fashioned like me, you will use oil based. Don't get me wrong, i've used a lot of acrylic in the past but if i'n not in a hurry, I prefer the original way. Just feel you would have to do a lot of rubbing down.
