Hi guys, looking for a bit advice. A pal of mine was having problems with his central heating. Basically the flow pipe from the boiler and to all the rads was getting hot but the radiators would only get lukewarm. the return pipe did not seem to be getting hot at all. He ssuspected that there mat be a blockage and flushed the pipes. water seemed to flow through o.k. After reading the manual he suspected that the problem could posssibly be the diverter valve and stripped that out and that's where we became stuck. There appears to be a valve at one end that is not quite touching it's seat. Not having seen inside a diverter valve before we don't know if this is quite right. could anyone give us some clues. Would a faulty diverter valve give the symptoms I've described. Hot water is o.k. by the way. Thanks in anticipation.

Its probably more likely to be a faulty pump.

However the operation of the diverter valve is more akin to a bypass valve.

Its function is to short circuit the heating system by joining the flow and return together when there is a flow of cold water through the boiler.

It may be jammed or the wax element is sluggish or failed.

It's operated by a waxstat at the front. May only need the wax bit but they're inclined to leak if you don't change the whole thing.

Thanks for all the replies. He's going to try a new divertor valve as the pump was only changed in January. According to plumbcenter you can only get the whole valve not just the wax head thingy. £ 107 + vat. Ouch.
