l'm taking wall tiles off over the full walls around the bath. Now how do l protect the bath from being damaged, and what is the best method to get these 6"x6" wall tiles off. They seem to be quite stubborn and leaving the old adversive on the walls.

Cut some ply to the size of the bath, place the ply on the bath top. Cover the taps with bubble wrap or sheeting. Cover the ply with dust sheets.

Get a stone bolster/chisel and whack the tiles. Start at the top and work down. When you get close to the bath remove the ply and gently remove the last layer.

The tiles will fly everywhere so wear goggles and gloves. To remove the grout and adhesive scrape away or get a wallpaper steamer stripper this will weaken the adhesive to rub off.

Thanks DIY, l've done that today.Mindyou it did'nt half make a mess.Only problem is that one wall when taking the tiles off it took the plaster with it.So all the wall needs doing now  .What do you recommend l should use, it's took about 10mm of plaster off.The remaining walls were ok,and most the adhesive came off when scraped, leaving just small amounts on that are not far off being flush with the wall.Is it ok to leave this now, and with it being a bathroom do l have to put anything on the walls before tiling like bonding with something.

boshing off tiles ...
aye up they were the days ....lol..lol ;)

try to get the orgional plaster as the finished key surface , you will /may have big patches here an there missing, but if you use the one coat finish plaster you can fill them in ,dont bother at getting it exact just something like ...this is your substrate finish , when plaster is dry tile on top ;)

Thanks for that moz, but l still want to know if l need to put anything onto the walls before tiling it, as it's a bathroom. Also while l'm on about this.Where is the best place to start tiling.....Window maybe. The tiles are 20x25mm 10x8 . l was thinking of putting them with the 10" lenghwise and tiling them like building bricks, will this work or will l lose alot in waste.

whatever mudmix/adhesive you use will tell you /DONT USE TUB Pre Mix
awful ...powdered an mix yourself

I have given so much about how to set up /an other good pro tilers ...

on no feature on wall ..window /door ...measure wall an tiles an then lay on wall held up an decide an if pattern set too paper ......
I go full tiles if fit /half if not ....
on a feature you set that as a start an work away /around it as the *looking point *, keeping pattern in mind ...

there is loads of more info here , search an read up ... :)
hope this helps :)

ok moz, so mix adhesive from a bag not pre mix/tub.Any reason for this, has it got better handling mixing from bags.Sorry but confused about tile layout and planning still  .
