We've just had a few rooms replastered from scratch, one being a new loft conversion and the other being a living room that went down to the bare brick and re rendered and then plastered. The problem were having is when were paiting there are some small sections where the paint almost appears not to adhere to the plaster and leaves a patch (starting to look like an atlas)

We sanded before we painted and have also sized the paint with watered down emulsion.

Any ideas?

What name and make of emulsion did you use ?. What is the instructions on the tin of emulsion ?. What type of plaster was used in the full process ?.

plaster wise im not to sure, i think upstairs as its drywalled i seem to remember drywall adhesive plaster then standard plaster, think it was made by gyproc and one bag was white and green and the other red and white.

emulsion wise its from b and q and its a contractors emulsion and said use watered down, even when that base coat is on and weve gone over with dulux matt emulsion it still doesnt cover that well and up dont seem to be able to build up a layer over it. Bit of a pain to be honest.

The chap who did the loft conversion for us hasnt paid the plasterer the final sum so at least we haven't paid for the hole thing with regard to the plaster.

"sized" the wall.? and probably Hardwall plaster followed by skim coat ;) .......-may- have polished it too much .......but I won`t condem a spead`s work without seeing it..........and you said you sanded it , so.....

Has it completely dried out? You shouldn't have had to 'sand it' after the spread was finished. Your looking at render then skim so it needs time to fully dry back.

Its all dry as its had over a month to do so, looking at it closer the problem appears to be a very fine smother layer over the plaster which doesnt seem to be porus as the paint wont sink through. Looks like some parts have been smothed off quite poorly hence this effect.

Sanding wont remove have had to use a scrapper. Had lots of plaster work done in the past but never seen this, take it poor workmanship??
