Can anyone advise me if the auto air vent that sits near the hot water storage tank in airing cuboard should be open or closed during normal operation?

I know it should be open when draining/filling the system but am not sure whether leaving open is contributing to air being drawn into the system causing all sorts of side effects, mainly noise and constant bleeding of RADS.

Yes it is brass.

The cap needs to be opened manually, but my question is whether this should stay in this position.

They mostly seem to leak sooner or later. I'd check it every now and again, but keep it shut. Not as important if a little air collects as it would be by a boiler.
