Getting a gas cooker point put in kitchen?

If a house has gas central heating, but does not have a gas point for a cooker in the kitchen, is it a complex/expensive job to get one installed?
I assume pipe work would have to be run through the house etc, so fear it would be a big undertaking.

Any insight appreciated
