I'm just decorating for the first time! I am trying to emulsion a ceiling and all that is happening is that it is lifting the previous layer of paint underneath and its coming off in strips like wallpaper! What can I do? I was using Dulux matt paint for walls and ceilings.

Hi Sandrap,

Sounds to me like the previous owner may have had the ceiling skimmed and didn't give it a mist coat.

Think you may have to strip all old paint off the ceiling before starting over.

Regards

Fred

Any ideas how to get the old stuff off? House is about 6 years old and this might be the first repaint since the builders. Thanks

What is the EXACT name of your Dulux Matt Emulsion ?. What is the instructions on the paint tin/tub ? Are you 100% sure that the artex had already been emulsion ?
