1 radiator in house cold, pipes into it are cold aswell??
i have this problem.
1 radiator in the spare bedroom is cold,
the pipes leading inot the radiator are cold as well.
i have tried bleeding them,
i have tried balancing the System
i have even takne off the radiator and cleaned it out
but still no joy.
im not a plumber, the radiator i have has the two pipes
going in at one end, rather than one at each end.
when i took the radiator off the wall the hot and cold water
were comming through fine, now i fine the pipes going into the
radiator are cold, on the odd day they are warm.
what can i do???

Is it microbore or small bore pipe?also what sort of valve is it?.If it worked before I can only imagine it's a blockage in the valve somehow.

im not to sure what valves they are.
the hot and cold valves go into the right hand side of the
radiator,
when i took the radiator off the wall to clean it
i tired the hot and cold valves, both hot and cold water came
through ok.
the cold water is the standard on and off tap
the hot water was different, you have to unscrew a small metal
cap and ajust the pressure with a flat head screw driver.

if there was a blockage why would the water still come through
when i took the radiator off the wall?

You mean a valve at the top and at the bottom or both pipes going to the same valve?.Also how big is the pipe 6,8,10,12 or 15mm.I'm just trying to determine the system you've got.So you closed both valves to remove the rad then the flow was ok when you tried it so the only thing you changed was the valve settings?

ok the pipes are 8mm, they have yorkshire imperial knobs.
both the hot and cold pipes go into the rad in the bottom right hand corner
both pipes going in at the same place

So you closed both valves to remove the rad then the flow was ok when you tried it so the only thing you changed was the valve settings?

yes i removed the rad emptied all the crap out, tired the valves the hot and cold came out fine, i then replaced the rad and now it no longer works.

I am not a plumber or heating engineer but if water comes out the pipes with no radiator attached and you have cleaned the radiator out it sounds lie the radiator is still full of air.

Could you not open the bleed valve, then the "flow" pipe when water comes out the bleed valve then open the "return" pipe

i have tried to bleed it from the top untill mucky black water comes out.

My theory is that if it doesnt get hot it must be full of air, so basically waht i am saying is by opening the flow valve only and the bleed valve it must fill with water, then by opening the return valve slowly water should cirulate.

It appears you have "microbore" have you tried adjusting the valves at the manifold?

which ones are the
flow valve, return valve and the bleed valve??

you said

the cold water is the standard on and off tap the hot water was different

so in your case the flow is the one which is "different" the return is the cold one and the bleed valve is at the highest point of the radiator

ok i have tried the above:

by opening the flow valve only and the bleed valve it must fill with water, then by opening the return valve slowly water should cirulate.

i emptied the rad, opened the the flow valve and the bleed valve,
the rad filled with water which was cool,
once the water started comming out of the bleed valve i turn off,
and slowy opened the return valve,
now the pipes going into the rad are hot but the rad is cold still,
should i have done this when the heating was on??
or off like i did?

Is it a combi boiler? (do you have "an airing cupboard" with a large cylnender in it) and are the other radiators still hot?

yes i do have a airing cupboard with a large cylnender in it

and yes all the other radiators still hot?

It's either got to be a balancing issue or you need to encourage some hot water into the rad by opening either a draincock or bleed valve on that rad until the hot water in the pipe comes through into the rad.Try turning all the other rads off and then fire up the boiler and see if that rad warms up,if it does balance the whole system.

so the heating would need to be on when i try to encourage
the hot water into the rad?
