I'm building a single storey side & rear extension, which already has planning approval and building regulations approval (full plan approval, not a building notice). As part of this we were simply going to remove the 6' wide patio doors, leaving an opening into the new room at the rear (installing a concrete lintel on the outer wall as there is no external lintel at present).

We now think that we should have enlarged this opening to the full width of the room (about 9') which will obviously entail calcualtions from a structural engineer for the correct joist size.

Can I simply submit these calculations as an addition to the current approved plans? Or do I need to submit a new building notice?

No problem, just submit them as an amendment to the original application; there are no further fees for this.

As it's an extension, presumably it is on Schedule 2 fees, in which case it's based on square metreage. In which case, a revision to an opening is not going to make a tad of difference.
